"Vintage" eye candy

One of the things I love about the country/ primitive look is that so much of it is timeless. There are some fads of course but so much that was enjoyed over 20 years ago would still be drooled over today. My mom has been collecting and reading Country Living magazine ever since the early 1980's and she has kept every issue. Now for some women this would be no big deal except my mother was an army wife and we moved on average of every two years - usually from one end of the country to the other and my dad was always worried about the weight of our worldly possessions (he would have to pay for anything that went over our weight allowance). So when ever it was time to move, we would take the things we no longer needed to the thrift store and through all of this my mom managed to keep her Country Living magazines. Well after all of these years she has decided to get rid of them! She has been kind enough to pass them on to me and I have been having a great time looking through them. I would love to have some of the pieces of furniture some of these collectors have been blessed with.
I thought just for fun I would scan some of the pictures to share with everyone in blog land. I will post and scan some more over time (if I thought I could stick with it I would do it once a week , but I know that's not going to happen).
I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I did:
I just the pieces in this dinning room. This picture is from January 1986

This picture is also from Jan 1986
The following are from Sept 1986

This picture is from Oct 1984 - I would love to own anything in this picture!
The following are from Nov 1986

I love everything here too.
And I thought the 80's were all about hearts and geese. Check back for more pictures later.

Penny rug lamp shade

I like to buy neat lamps second hand for my space at The Girl's Back Porch because they lighten my space up and they sell. I also like to purchase the shades second hand because lets face it lampshades are not cheap. I usually recover them but this time I decided to do something a little different...

Now normally I purchase white shades, but I needed this one this size for this great lamp. I know blue is not the number one color, but I thought of adding pennies to give it a new look and I really like how it turned out so I just had to share it with all of you out in blog land. I spent a couple of hours last night cutting out and stitching the pennies and then I glued them on the lamp this morning.

I really like how well they go with this lamp. I am planning on taking it to the store tomorrow. Anyway I thought this was a fun way to bring new life to something old.

I picked up this fun magazine up a the grocery store this morning. So when I'm all done with my work today I'm going to sit down and enjoy looking at Flea Market style. I can hardly wait!

Some prim rabbits & spring has sprung

I can't believe that is still February - my daffodils are starting to bloom as well as several other flowers - and to top if all off we are having some lovely sunny days. I'm just loving it!
On Friday Mom and I went to a couple of garage sales and other treasure hunting and I found some wonderful goodies for the store. I hope to make a trip to The Girl's Back Porch on Wednesday. I just finished up these great prim rabbits as well. I really like how they turned out.

I made four for the store and one for my selling blog and one for a up coming suprise - so be sure to talk a gander at my selling blog as well.

I'm up and running again.

I can't believe how long it has taken me to get over being sick. I have been making lots of goodies for the Girl's Back Porch. I took a bunch in last week with my camera and was all ready to take some pictures and the batteries died in my camera. I took some cute primitive Annies and Black babies (as Dawn likes to call them). You can see pictures of some on my selling blog (the link is on the right of my blog). This week I will be bringing in some great items I found while junking and some goodies I fixed up and up dated.

I just love these pears. I just finished up a bunch of them today. I am taking 27 of them to the store and I have some listed on my selling blog. The green bowl is also going to the Girl's Back Porch.  It has issues but it is so neat looking. It has some chips and a bad crack, but would still look great on a shelf. I also got my order of hooked rugs yesterday and they are great for spring. I will be dropping goodies at the store tomorrow (Wednesday the 17th) hopefully sometime not long after the store opens. I am going to try and remember my camera so I can take updated pictures of the store.

If you get a chance please check out my new selling blog as well. I also am still listing patterns on ebay. At the bottom of this blog I have a widget with my auctions. If you double click on one it will take you to that auction and from there you can click on the link for my other auctions.
Hopefully I will be posting again before the end of the week with more pictures of the store.

Hello Everyone

I have been sick in bed and I am so tired of feeling this way. I spent some time this morning  get my ebay auctions ready to ship, and I found a widget that shows your auctions. I put it at the bottom of my page. Everything pictured there are patterns or magazines. As soon as I am up and running again I will have some more items listed and hopefully get some more items made for the store - ugh.
I am toying of the idea of starting a seller blog to put some of my handmades up for sale. Do any of you in blog land do that? If you do I would love to hear how it well it works for you. I have to go and lay down now.
Blessings to everyone
Emily
